An excellent opportunity for an experienced Ecologist with strong bat expertise to join a thriving, forward-thinking environmental consultancy. This is a well-established, independent business with a great reputation for high-quality technical work, collaboration and professional growth.

You’ll play a key role in delivering and leading a range of ecology projects with a particular focus on bats, while also supporting broader terrestrial ecology and biodiversity work. The team is known for its friendly, inclusive culture and commitment to helping each member develop both technically and professionally.

This role offers genuine variety and autonomy, with the opportunity to manage projects, support junior colleagues, and work closely with a wide mix of clients across development, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and delivering bat surveys, assessments and mitigation strategies

• Coordinating and overseeing fieldwork and data analysis across multiple projects

• Providing expert advice on bat licensing, mitigation and habitat enhancement

• Supporting wider ecology work including protected species and habitat assessments

• Attending client meetings and maintaining strong working relationships

• Preparing high-quality technical reports and ecology chapters for planning submissions

• Mentoring and supporting junior team members

• Ensuring projects are delivered to time, budget and quality standards

About you:

• Experienced ecologist with a strong background in bat ecology and survey techniques

• Ideally holding (or working towards) a Natural England bat licence

• Good understanding of relevant UK legislation, planning policy and guidance

• Confident managing multiple projects and liaising with clients and regulators

• Strong technical report writing and data interpretation skills

• Approachable, organised and collaborative team player

• Ideally CIEEM registered or working towards full membership
