Meet Heal Somerset (www.healrewilding.org.uk/heal-somerset), spearheaded by the visionary Jan Stannard, an innovative project committed to reversing biodiversity loss in the UK through the transformative power of rewilding.

Heal Somerset's mission is as bold as it is inspiring: to acquire and rejuvenate land parcels, beginning with their inaugural site, a disused dairy farm near Frome, spanning an impressive 460 acres. With three tributaries of the river Frome meandering through its terrain, this site holds immense potential for biodiversity resurgence with minimal human intervention.

But Heal Somerset's ambitions don't stop there. With a long-term vision to establish a rewilding site in every English county by 2050, encompassing nearly 25,000 acres, the scale of their endeavour is truly monumental.

Recently, I had the privilege of exploring Heal Somerset's flagship site, and I was immediately captivated by the boundless possibilities it presents. From its vast expanses teeming with potential to its tranquil riverside vistas, the site embodies the essence of nature's resilience and renewal.

Excitement is in the air as Heal Somerset prepares to host its inaugural event, "Into the Light," (www.healsomerset.org.uk/events/into-the-light) a two-day rewilding gathering set against the backdrop of their idyllic Somerset site. Scheduled for Friday 10th May, and Saturday 11th May 2024. This event promises to unite leading voices and change-makers from across the rewilding movement in the UK.

"Into the Light" offers a unique platform for professionals, enthusiasts, and advocates alike to converge, exchange ideas, and chart a course towards a more sustainable future.
